It was a hot, muggy day. One of those summer days that feels like the clouds are holding a million gallons of rain, but they never release it. Just the constant anticipation of the rain to come. I chugged water from a Styrofoam cup in the dugout, then lifted my cap to clear the sweat from my forehead. My jersey waved with an invigorating breeze that came from nowhere, snaking through the sleeves, cooling my chest. I put on my batting gloves and headed to the batter’s box.
