My father never played sports. He was more of a brainy person that painted tiny figures for exercise. One summer Uncle Charlie came for two weeks to visit. He was completely opposite of Dad. You would have never thought that they were brothers. He brought me a basketball as a present. He was shocked that I had never played. “Not even at school?” he asked shocked. We went over to Moorpark Park and shot some hoops. We had so much fun that every day for those two weeks, we played basketball. My dad sat under a shaded tree one day and watched. Before Uncle Charlie left, he took me to the community center to sign up for ‘your team’ basketball. The rest is history.
