The year that the Olympics were held in our city, my Dad scored tickets through his office for the whole family. He didn’t get a choice of which event. They gave him basketball, which none of us really followed, but we were thrilled to go. Something that day watching the Olympians play ball inspired me. I wanted to be one of those guys. I wanted to use my body to the best of its ability and develop skills and techniques like these guys could. Even though my father got laid off that Christmas, I’ll still always be grateful to his old boss for giving us those tickets. If it weren’t for that, I would have never become the great ‘your team’ that I am today.
